welcome from the principal
“Develop a passion for learning, if you do, you will never cease to grow.”
Anthony J. D’Angelo
It is with great satisfaction that I would like to welcome you to GIS SP - The International School of São Paulo, a school which aims to offer an international education within the affectionate environment of one’s home. At our school, the child is at the centre of all we do; we are committed to develop well rounded multilingual citizens who have the necessary knowledge and skills to thrive in a complex and ever changing world.
The school will apply for candidacy to become an International Baccalaureate (IB) world school. The IB is an organization present in over 4500 schools around the world. It comprises 4 different programmes, the PYP being the initial one for children between 3 and 12 years old. Throughout its continuum, it aims to develop internationally minded students to build a better world through intercultural understanding and respect. Through a transdisciplinary and global curriculum with strong academic rigour, children learn to be critical thinkers and inquiring life-long learners who are empowered to become active members of their community.
Our Early Years offers the Reggio Emilia Approach, which resonates with the IB Primary Years Programme. The keystone of this approach is the image of children as capable, resourceful and curious researchers, who communicate their learning through different means of symbolic language, such as: drawing, painting, sculpting, dance, music, drama, design and building, amongst others. The teachers plan provocations based on the child's interests, pose questions to further and deepen their understanding, actively engaging in the activities alongside the child. They document and assess the child’s achievements in order to cater for tailored instruction and the understanding of their individual needs.
The environment, as ‘the third teacher’ has fundamental importance and is taken very seriously at GIS SP - The International School of São Paulo, offering safe and aesthetically pleasing surroundings filled with natural light, order and wonder. The environment is inclusive, and promotes competence, independent exploration and learning through play.
Our Primary school, continues to develop our children’s curiosity through the Primary Years Programme’s (PYP) inquiry-based philosophy. Here children will develop the necessary understanding, knowledge, skills and attitudes which will give them the foundation for successful secondary learning. Children investigate, work in groups, develop their thinking and communication skills, and learn how to manage themselves to become agents of their own future.
In the spirit of collaboration and the attributes of the Learner Profile, we would like to invite you to be full participants in this journey into your children’s education.
On behalf of our staff, we look forward to seeing you at GIS SP for a successful start!
